This allowed to dive into the OS and thus to find flaws in order to be able to finally launch our own native programs… This was made much more easily possible thanks to the amazing Goplat who was able, back in late 2009, to create nspire_emu, the first TI-Nspire emulator (with full-fledged ARM emulation) without even owning a TI-Nspire device. Unsurprisingly, messing a bit with the hardware was required at first, but soon enough hacks became software-based, making Nspire “jailbreaking” much more feasible for the average user. Some time later, Hackspire, a community wiki, also got created to bring together such findings in an organized way. Originally, discussions and news about it happened on forums like United-TI and yAronet, where famous community members such as Olivier ‘ExtendeD’ Armand, Geoffrey ‘Geogeo’ Anneheim and others shared their discoveries. TI-Nspire hacking began quite early, just shortly after the calculator was released back in 2007 (yes, that’s a decade old!). To avoid this needless formatting, you can download just the plain OS from a mirror on : CX and CX CAS. Note that the needed CX (CAS) OS 4.5.3.14 is not directly available from TI’s download pages, only a special “installer” variant which formats the filesystem can be downloaded there. The announcement for CX II support includes some more information about the CX II for users and developers. In total, this means that this installer supports 10 different OSs and with this release, ndless_resources.tns reached support for 42 OS versions, all the way back to 3.1.0.392! It retains support for the slightly older releases (4.5.3.14, 5.2.0.771) as well, in the same installer files. This release includes an installer for the latest OS versions for CX (4.5.4.48) and CX II (5.3.0.564) models, which were just released a few days ago.
